MEDICAL SERVICES & SUPPORT
Background:
Medical infrastructure in rural areas has not been able to keep pace with urban hospital development, and it is difficult to retain well qualified medical staff in rural areas when facilities and wages are so much better in larger cities.
Experience:
Born out of the needs of the 2008 earthquake, CRDF developed strong links with various medical agencies able to offer highly qualified and specialist short term teams for specific needs. These range from experts in trauma care and counselling through to general practitioners and nurses.
Outputs:
CRDF is not aiming to duplicate the operation of major long-standing medical agencies, but provides complementary medical services where these fit within the parameters of other CRDF objectives. These are short term in nature, highly focussed, and with highly measurable results.
Outcomes:
Determined specifically for each project, but measured in health improvements.
Sustainability:
When a project is finished, no further work is normally required, but the results and any resulting recommendations are fed back to whatever long term medical supervision is in place in the location.
